Plan your first appointmentABOUT CHRIS
I’m a consultant rheumatologist at Austin Health and work in private practice. Alongside clinical medicine, I lead data science work within Austin’s Medicines Optimisation Service.
My work brings together rheumatology, medication safety and clinical data science: understanding the problem, weighing the evidence and finding a practical way forward.
Outside work, I’m a dad and a Fremantle Dockers supporter. Patience is useful in both roles.
CLINICAL INTERESTS
My clinical work covers a range of rheumatic conditions, with interests including:
Rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, axial spondyloarthritis and reactive arthritis.
Polymyalgia rheumatica and gout are among my clinical interests. My research has also explored machine learning in diagnostic imaging for polymyalgia rheumatica.
Conditions including Sjögren’s syndrome and scleroderma, where the clinical picture can involve several parts of the body.
I also have an interest in hypermobility and connective tissue disorders, including hypermobile Ehlers–Danlos syndrome (hEDS).
My work in medicines optimisation focuses on medication safety and using clinical data to understand problems in real-world care.
RESEARCH & TECHNOLOGY
I work at the intersection of medicine and artificial intelligence, building and studying tools that help us make better use of clinical information.
My interests include machine learning, clinical text, medication safety and the everyday work of delivering care. The question that matters to me is what a tool helps us do for patients, and what evidence supports it.
